The current interest in quantifying real-world emissions from heavy-duty ve
hicles has led to a far more extensive use of chassis dynamometers than eve
r before. Depending upon the objectives of chassis dynamometer testing, a r
ange of different driving schedules could be employed to operate vehicles o
n the dynamometer. This paper addresses the losses associated with tyre-rol
ler interaction on a chassis dynamometer. In this paper, a theoretical anal
ysis has been conducted to evaluate the rolling resistance, as a function o
f vehicle speed, experienced by heavy-duty vehicle tyres on a twin-roller c
hassis dynamometer. This study focuses on the constant torque method to mor
e accurately evaluate the parasitic losses of the dynamometer. Thus, a more
accurate dynamometer control scheme could be implemented to simulate the r
oad load for better assessment of a vehicle's performance and exhaust gas e
missions measurements.
