Abstract
We study the response of the electron system in quantum well infrared photo detectors under illumination by infrared radiation to small electric-field and charge fluctuations using the proposed analytical model. It is shown th at uniform electric-field distributions corresponding to quasi-neutral quan tum wells can be unstable with regard to the excitation of the recharging w aves in a wide range of infrared radiation intensities.
