Al. Pazmany et al., Polarization Diversity Pulse-Pair technique for millimeter-wave Doppler radar measurements of severe storm features, J ATMOSP OC, 16(12), 1999, pp. 1900-1911
The Polarization Diversity Pulse-Pair (PDPP) technique can extend simultane
ously the maximum unambiguous range and the maximum unambiguous velocity of
a Doppler weather radar. This technique has been applied using a high-reso
lution 95-GHz radar to study the reflectivity and velocity structure in sev
ere thunderstorms. This paper documents the technique, presents an analysis
of the first two moments of the estimated mean velocity, and provides a co
mparison of the results with experimental data, including PDPP images of hi
gh-vorticity regions in supercell storms.
