Diphenyllead difluoride and triphenylbismuth difluoride - new fluorinatingreagents for the chlorine-fluorine metathesis reactions of group 4 and 5 compounds

Ph2PbF2 (2) and Ph3BiF2 (3) were used for the fluorine-chlorine metathesis
reactions of organometallic chlorides. The preparation of Cp*TiF3 (Cp* = C5
Me5), Cp2ZrF2 and Cp2HfF2 is reported. In comparison the yields are, howeve
r, lower than those using Me3SnF. The fluorination of Cp*TaCl4 gives [Ph3Bi
Cl](+)[Cp*TaF5](-). 2 and 3 do not show chlorine fluorine exchange with lat
er transition metal complexes at elevated temperatures. The structures of C
p*(Cp')ZrF2, Cp*(Cp')ZrCl2, and Cp*(Cp')HfF2 (Cp' = C5H4SiMe3) were determi
ned by single crystal X-ray diffraction. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science S.A. All
