Ag(CF3)(3).CH3CN is formed in numerous reactions of M[Ag(CF3)(4)] with acid
ic compounds. It is isolated as a colourless oil from the reaction of Li[Ag
(CF3)(4)] with ICl. Ag(CF3)(3).CH3CN reacts with halides to form the isolab
le tris(trifluoromethyl)chloro and bromo argentates(III) [Ag(CF3)(3)X](-);
the comparable iodo argentate(III) is unstable. The reaction of Ag(CF3)(3).
CH3CN with Cd(C2F5)(2) complexes yields the mixed perfluoroalkyl argentate(
III) [Ag(CF3)(3)C2F5](-) Oxidation of trifluoromethylsilver(I) compounds wi
th tetraethyl thiuram disulfide (edtc)(2) leads to the neutral silver(III)
compound (CF3)(2)Ag(edtc). The redox potentials of [PNP][Ag(CF3)(4)] [PNP =
bis(triphenylphosphinanylidene)immonium] and (CF3)(2)Ag(edtc) have been me
asured.
