The management of patients with sarcomas of the appendicular skeleton
with limb-sparing surgery has become the standard of care. This is the
result of advances in the understanding of the biology and staging of
tumors, improvement in reconstructive techniques, and development of
effective adjuvant chemotherapy and radiotherapy. A limb-sparing appro
ach is applicable to virtually any bone lesion, whether low grade or h
igh grade, and to all of the common primary soft-tissue sarcomas.
