Abstract
The synthesis of unsaturated polycarbogermanes via acyclic diene metathesis (ADMET) polymerization is reported. Exposure of germanadienes to well-defi ned olefin metathesis catalysts yields unsaturated polymers containing germ anium along the backbone in a clean process. The polymers are viscous liqui ds with glass transition temperatures around -90 degrees C. Thermogravimetr ic analysis suggests a non-volatile residue after thermal decomposition, po ssibly elemental germanium. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reser ved.
