We make a study of implications of quark mass hierarchy and flavor mix
ing data on the possible forms of quark mass matrices in the nearest-n
eighbor interaction basis. An interesting parameter space is found, in
which some instructive analytical relations between quark mass ratios
and the Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements can be derived. In particul
ar, we reproduce \V-us\ similar to root m(d)/m(s), \V-cb\ similar to m
(s)/m(b) and \V-ub/V-cb\ similar to root m(u)/m(c) without fine tuning
.
