Molecular orientation and order-disorder transition of Langmuir-Blodgett fi
lms of a novel amphiphile, N-Hexadecyl-5-iminomethyl-8-Hydroxyquinoline (HI
HQ), were studied via FT-IR spectra measurements. Different spectral featur
es were observed of HIHQ in solid state, cast films and LB films. In the LB
films of HIHQ, the interaction between the first monolayer and the substra
te is very weak and LB films display a very uniform property from layer to
layer. FT-IR transmission spectra of HIHQ LB Alms measured at different tem
perature show that the order-disorder transition occurs in the temperature
range of 50-70 degrees C. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserve
