Abstract
The damping mechanism and its application in Fe-Mn based high damping alloy s are studied in this work. The mechanism of damping capacity is proposed b y correlating it with the microstructure, which is varied through changes i n grain size. The Fe-Mn based alloys are successfully applied as a part of a stone cutter, reducing the noise by 10-25 dB. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science S .A. All rights reserved.
