Myliocotyle pteromylaei gn. et sp n. (Monogenea, Monocotylidae) gill parasite of Pteromylaeus bovinus (Euselachii, Myliobatidae) from Tunisia

Fifteen specimens of Pteromylaeus bovinus (Geoffroy Si. Hilaire) from the T unisian coast were examined for ectoparosites during 1996-1998. Myliocotyle pteromylaei gn, ei sp. n. found on gills of twelve host specimens is descr ibed and illustrated. It differs from other Heterocoh/iinae mainly by the n umber and morphology of haptoral dorsal structures, arrangement and number of the anterior glands and morphology of the penis. M. pteromylaei, along w ith Heliocotyle kartasi, illustrates the originality of monocotylids gill p arasites of Pteromylaeus bovinus.
