Abstract
The objective of this work was to study the effect of trichomes, alellochem icals and minerals in the leaves of different canopy heights on the resista nce of Lycopersicon hirsutum to tomato leaf miner, Tuta absoluta (Lepidopte ra: Gelechiidae). Effects of 2-tridecanone (2-TD), 2-undecanone (2-UD), N, P, K, Ca and Mg levels, density and types of trichomes and leaf area on api cal, medium and basal parts of plant dossel of L. hirsutum and L. esculentu m on the oviposition and mines number of T. absoluta was studied. Productio n of 2-TD increased from the bottom to the top of the canopy. The apical pa rt of plants oft. hirsutum showed more antibiotic effect on the caterpillar . T. absoluta oviposited more on leaves of the apical and medium portion of the plants than in the basal parts of L. esculentum.
