The dispersion characteristics of the low-frequency mode associated with ve
rtical oscillations of dust grains in a quasi-two-dimensional dust-plasma c
rystal are calculated, taking into account the dependence of the dust charg
e on the local sheath potential. It is shown that the equilibrium of the du
st grains close to the electrode may be disrupted by large amplitude vertic
