Rm. Lazorenko-manevich et La. Sokolova, Kinetics of active dissolution of hydrophilic metals in the presence of specific adsorption of anions, RUSS J ELEC, 35(12), 1999, pp. 1254-1260
On the basis of a model of spatially separated dissolution and passivation
(SSDP), the role played by the specific adsorption of anions and the format
ion of oxygen adatoms in the kinetics of iron dissolution is considered. In
accordance with SSDP, any direct participation of anions in the reaction's
elementary act is possible only on the sites of formation of steps and kin
ks. Hence, the inhibition and acceleration of the dissolution by halide ani
ons and the fractional reaction orders by anions are largely associated wit
h the effect the anions adsorbed on nondissolving surface portions exert on
the reversible passivation of the dissolution caused by adsorbed oxygen.
