A series of Pr-doped Yb1-xPrxBa2Cu3O7-delta, (0<x<1) oxides has been s
ynthesized. The structure remained orthorhombic throughout the solid s
olution range 0less-than-or-equal-to x less-than-or-equal-to 1 and the
lattice parameters increased with Pr ion concentration, x. The superc
onducting transition temperature, T(c), was significantly higher for e
ach x than for the corresponding Y1-xPrxBa2Cu3O7-delta oxides. The hig
her T(c) in this series is suggested to be due to the smaller ionic ra
dius of the Yb3+ ion.
