Measurements at McMurdo Station, Antarctica demonstrate that the combustion
of light-weight fuel oil (AN-8) at the station is not a significant source
of vanadium in ambient aerosols there. It is concluded by inference that t
he elevated levels of vanadium found previously at Dye 3, Greenland, where
diesel fuel arctic (DFA) was used for power generation and surface vehicles
, were due to aerosol transport from North America, not contamination from
local sources. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
