Abstract
The careful description of the solar eclipse of A.D. 1567 by Clavius i s used to derive limits to the Earth's rotational clock error (Delta T ) of between 145 and 165 sec at this date. This result provides an imp ortant link between the Delta T curve as deduced from ancient and medi eval eclipse observations and that obtained from telescopic data.
