Abstract
40Gbit/s transmission experiments on standard fibre (16ps/km/nm) and with > 100km amplifier spacing demonstrate that transmission lengths of 432km for RZ and 218km for NRZ modulation schemes are possible, under comparable exp erimental conditions and in agreement with theoretical studies.
