Fluoropolymer coatings were prepared by crosslinking a polymeric perfluoroa
lkyl surfactant with a poly[(2-isopropenyl-2-(oxozoline)]. Marine organisms
adhered to these coatings with significantly less strength then to PTFE an
d other fluoropolymer films. This performance is attributed to a surface of
close-packed and oriented trifluoromethyl-terminated groups which resists
diffusion and rearrangement leading potentially to infiltration of marine a
dhesives.
