Abstract
Purpose. We report here an unusual case of primary cutaneous mucormycosis i n a patient without risk factors. Patient. A 86-year-old woman living in the country was hospitalized for pro sthetic treatment after a hip fracture. A bullous then necrotic cutaneous l esion was observed on the left sub-mammary area without previous trauma. Mi croscopic examination of pathologic sections demonstrated numerous broad no n septate hyphae in the papillary dermis. Absidia corymbifera has been obta ined from culture of the lesion. Routine laboratory tests revealed no evide nce of diabetes mellitus or any other abnormality. Cleansing of the wound w as obtained by application of oitmcnt with fibrinolysine and desoxyribonucl ease. Treatment with itraconazole was simultaneously prescribed. Healing wa s observed one month later. Discussion. The absence of risk factor is uncommon in primary cutaneous muc ormycosis. Clinical diagnosis has to be evoked on a necrotic and indolent c utaneous lesion and confirmed by pathological and mycological findings. As lesions can be rapidly extensive, a prompt detersion is a condition for a g ood outcome.
