Assessment and treatment of paraphilias

This article provides a description of the category of mental disorders cal led "paraphilias" as well as the specific types of paraphilias. Guidelines are provided for assessment of people who present with paraphilic behavior. A review of inventories and other tools that can facilitate diagnosis and description of paraphilias is included. In addition, effective approaches t o treatment of these disorders as well as personal and professional issues for counselors treating people with paraphilias are briefly discussed.
