Ch. Lin et al., Spontaneous resolution of internal jugular vein thrombosis in a Salmonellaneck abscess patient, J LARYNG OT, 113(12), 1999, pp. 1122-1124
This article describes a rare case of Salmonella neck abscess complicated b
y internal jugular vein thrombosis in a 51-year-old patient with previously
undiagnosed diabetes. The patient was discharged without any complications
after a combination of medical and surgical treatment. Also discussed here
are the clinical manifestations, imaging findings, and spontaneous resolut
ion of the internal jugular vein thrombosis. Being immunocompromised is a c
ritical predisposing factor for Salmonella neck abscess. Patient recovery i
s largely determined by proper incision, drainage of pus and adequate intra
venous antibiotics according to bacterial sensitivity tests. Detection of a
n internal jugular vein thrombosis does not signify a poor prognosis. Spont
aneous resolution of thrombosis is encountered after treating the infection
