Abstract
PVYNTN was distinguished from PVYN on the basis of diffsrences in electroph oretic mobility of their corresponding RNA transcripts. Transcripts were co pied from polymerase chain reaction products of two PVY strains to which th e T7 promoter was added. Single-strand and double-strand transcript heterod uplexes of the NTN and N strains exhibited different rate of migration in g el which enabled strain differentiation. This procedure obviates the need f or prior information on sequence divergence (e.g. restriction sites, etc.) among the virus isolates.
