In this study, cavitation-induced sonoluminescence under conditions of cath
odic protection was measured and examined in three percent sodium sulfate s
olution using an electrostrictive vibratory apparatus. It was found that th
e relative intensity of sonoluminescence increases as the cathodic current
becomes larger. This is because the hydrogen gas bubbles which evolve can a
lso give off sonoluminescence in the same way as cavitation bubble. This fa
ct suggests that cavitation accompanied by an electrolytic reaction can res
ult in more intense sonoluminescence.
