Abstract
We describe a 10-year-old girl with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) who first presented with hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). Diagnoses were based on the classic HUS triad, including the observation of fragmented red blood cells, and on the American College of Rheumatology criteria for SLE. Plasm a exchange may have been effective against both HUS and SLE in this patient , as it was associated with improvement of platelet counts, renal function, and serological findings.
