Abstract
The brassinosteroids 24-epi-castasterone and the hitherto unknown (22R, 23R , 24R)-22,23-dihydroxy-2 beta,3 beta-epoxy-24-methyl-5 alpha-cholestan-6-on e (24-epi-secasterone) could be identified from seeds of Lychnis viscaria ( Caryophyllaceae). In the phytosterol fraction of the same plant material sp inasterol was found as the main component. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. A ll rights reserved.
