The novel diacylated anthocyanin, cyanidin 3-(2",3"-digalloyl-beta-glucopyr
anoside), (3%) in addition to the known compounds cyanidin 3-(2"-galloyl-be
ta-glucopyranoside) (37%) and cyanidin 3-beta-glucopyranoside (60%) were is
olated from the red leaves of Acer platanoides "Crimson King". The structur
es were determined mainly on the basis of homo- and heteronuclear two-dimen
sional nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. This is the first report on
a digalloylated anthocyanin. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. Ail rights res
