Abstract
The isolation and identification of eight xanthones, together with friedeli n, from the aerial parts of Hypericum ascyron are reported. One of these xa nthones, 3,6-dihydroxy-1,7-dimethoxyxanthone is a new compound and the othe r 5-chloro-1,6-dihydroxy-3-methoxy-8-methylxanthone is the first chloroxant hone isolated from higher plants.
