Abstract
Poly((3-hydroxypropyl beta malate) has been synthesized starting from aspar tic acid and benzyloxy-1-propanol as precursors. This new polymer was chara cterized by H-1 and C-13 NMR, size exclusion chromatography and differentia l scanning calorimetry. Homopolymer is soluble in water. Two kinds of amphi philic copolymers were also prepared and characterized. Such polymers have been synthesized with a view to preparing non-charged degradable associatin g networks or drug carriers.
