Abstract
As transmissible spongiform encephalopathies are ranked as zooanthroponoses the commission of the european community formulated decree 98/272/EG about epidemiological survey of transmissible encephalopathies. By the "Decree a bout the surveilance of transmissible encephalopathies and changes to the d ecree about notifiable animal diseases" this European order was transferred in national laws. In this paper the relevance of the decree for the practi cing veterinarian and diagnostic approaches to BSE and Scrapie are dicussed .
