Abstract
It is reported about three pilot studies with isolated rearing and fattenin g after 10 or 21 days suckling period or after a flat deck period of 75 liv ing days respectively. With the help of the principles of multisite-product ion an excellent level of animal-health, according to the results of the pa thological and anatomical examination of the carcasses was realized. In add ition to this the isolated housed pigs realized a higher weight gain of 100 g per living day in comparison to their conventional housed litter sibling s. Numerous accompanying microbiological examinations show, that the main e ffects of multisite-production come from the immune defence of the animals. The immune system of the isolated housed pigs is just confrontated with ge rms, which infected them already during their suckling period. Therefore th e consequent isolation of the pigs from the breeding herd is more important than the weaning age. For practical realisation of the multisite-productio n it can be adapted to the existing farm conditions and finally we can high ly recommend the procedure to the German pig production.
