Abstract
The ability of curcumin, a natural antioxidant from turmeric, to inhib it radiation-induced lipid peroxidation in rat liver microsomes was ex amined. Curcumin was incorporated into microsomes during ultracentrifu gation. The antioxidant has significant time- and concentration-depend ent inhibitory effect on lipid peroxidation induced by tau-radiation. Inhibition of lipid peroxidation was also observed in microsomes sampl es previously saturated with N2O. Curcumin also inhibited lipid peroxi dation during the post-irradiation incubation.
