Acacia salicina seeds exhibit hard seed coat dormancy. Hot water soaking wa
s investigated as a method for breaking dormancy. Seeds were also scarified
mechanically by chipping the seed coat and chemically by immersion in 98%
sulphuric acid. Soaking in water at 70 degrees C was the most effective met
hod, with soaking times between 1 and 100 min safely overcoming hard seed c
oat dormancy and permitting maximum germination.
