Abstract
Ultrastructures of the hilar region play a major role in water uptake of se eds. Mechanical scarification and concentrated sulphuric acid treatment era se the testa-imposed dormancy in seeds. Albizia procera Benth. (Fabaceae) p roduces a large number of testa-imposed dormant seeds which possess the abi lity to germinate 100% after either mechanical scarification or 30 minutes concentrated sulphuric acid treatment. These treatments affect the ultrastr uctures of hilar region and also the testa surface. The affected regions fa cilitate the water uptake which result in 100% germination.
