Abstract
From 1988-94, 250 surface-sterilized seed samples of Brassica rapa canola f rom Saskatchewan and Alberta, and 58 samples from one location in Saskatche wan were assessed for seed infection by Alternaria spp. and for seed germin ation. Alternaria brassicae and A. raphani significantly reduced seed germi nation while A. alternata had no effect. Infection by these pathogens was a n important factor reducing seed germination.
