Abstract
Exudative retinal detachment, a rare but severe acute complication of toxem ia of pregnancy, is a manifestation of acute ischemic infarction of the cho roid associated with severe hypertension, Three cases in young primiparous women with severe toxemia are reported. Exudative detachment of the neuroep ithelium resulted in abrupt bilateral visual loss. Delivery after induced l abor was followed by partial or complete restoration of visual function, wi th only minor anatomic sequelae.
