Pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis (PCI) is a relatively rare, mostly
benign, condition. We report a case of chemotherapy-induced PCI with f
ree retro- and intraperitoneal gas in a 17-year-old man with acute lym
phoblastic leukemia. Chest radiography and upright abdominal radiograp
hy showed free intra- and retroperitoneal gas; computed tomography dem
onstrated subserosal gas collections, Conservative treatment with oxyg
en, metronidazol, and parenteral alimentation was performed, and PCI r
esolved within 2 weeks.
