Of 36 patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) who were referre
d for direct or rescue coronary angioplasty, 11 (31%) needed stent imp
lantation. In 7 of them, the stent was implanted because of severe dis
section and in 4, because of elastic recoil. All patients were dischar
ged without clinical or electrocardiographic signs of reocclusion. No
death, reinfarction or clinical evidence of ischemia occurred during u
p to 15 months of follow-up. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ireland Ltd.
