We investigate the conditions of optical (lambda(c) greater than or equal t
o 0.2 mu m) reconstruction of X-ray (lambda(x) approximate to 4.4 nm) Gabor
holograms, for the highest possible resolution. First, a careful theoretic
al analysis shows that, in this particular case, the resolution limit (in t
he object plane) allowed by diffraction can be as small as lambda(c)/4. The
n, we derive the structure and specification of a dedicated optical system,
for a diffraction limited reconstructed image, with a magnification of 180
, and an object resolution of lambda(c)/3 (lambda(c) = 0.244 mu m).
