In contrast to secondary amines the N-alkylated dihydrazidophosphoric
acid derivatives reported here attack hexachlorocyclotriphosphaza-1,3,
5-triene exclusively at geminal positions and therefore react to spiro
cyclic systems. The synthesis and spectroscopic characterization of 4'
,4',6',6'-tetrachloro-2-phenoxy- 1,3,7,9-tetraaza-2 lambda(5), 8 lambd
a(5)-diphosphatricyclo [7.3.0.0(3,7)] decane-spiro[8.2']-cyclotri(phos
phazene)-2-sulfide (Cl4N3P3(N(CH2)(3)N)(2)P(S)OC6H5) (1) and -tetramet

phadiazane)-6'-sulfide (Cl4N3P3(NCH3NCH3)(2)P(S)OC6H5) (2) are describ
ed. The molecular structures of 1 and '5'-dimethyl-6'-phenoxycyclotri(
phosphazene)-spiro 2.3']-cyclodi(lambda(5)-phosphadiazane)-6'-sulfide
(Cl4N3P3(NHNCH3)(2)P(S)OC6H5) (3) were determined by X-ray single crys
tal structure analysis and show that the six-membered phosphorus-hydra
zine rings of both compounds adopt twist-conformations.
