Abstract
Reactions of a series of 1-aminobenzimidazoles and 1-amino-3-methylbenzimid azolium chlorides with 2,4-pentanedione were carried out and pyridazino[1,6 -a]benzimidazoles and 2-pyrazolylanilines were generated. The product ratio s of these compounds remarkably depended on the reaction conditions and on the electronic character of the substituent at the benzene moiety. The poss ible mechanisms involved in these reactions are discussed.(C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
