New biostratigraphic (planktonic foraminifera) and palaeoenvironmental data
have been obtained about the Santonian formation of the Vocontian Basin. T
hey have been compared with those of two other palaeogeographic domains of
the SE of France : the Rhodanian and the Provencal Basins. In basins, compl
ex morphotypes of planktonic foraminifera change with the development of a
K strategy in relation with a high marine level. In other domains. plankton
ic foraminifera are less abundant, possibly absent; other biotopes take pla
ce with rudist bioconstruction (bafflestone) or unbuilt biocoenose in relat
ion with the coastal system progradation. Finally, comparisons with other p
arts of the world and a discussion about the effect of different parametres
are proposed.
