The T-matrix method and a new projection method for the impedance boundary
value problem in electromagnetic scattering theory are presented. The new m
ethod is called the D-matrix method since the matrix of the linear system o
f equations is dissipative. The dissipativity is established as a consequen
ce of the conservation law of energy. The convergence and solvability of th
e linear system of equations appearing in the D-matrix method is validated.
Numerical experiments are performed for analyzing the rate of convergence
of both methods. The numerical analysis indicates that the T-matrix method
still stands tall among alternatives approaches. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science
