The diffraction analysis of the C6H24Cl6CoHg2IN6 crystals (a = 10.240(3) An
gstrom, b = 11.515(3) Angstrom, c = 18.859(5) Angstrom, space group P2(1)2(
1)2(1), Z = 4, and R = 0.0699) revealed that the compound consists of the c
omplex tris(ethylenediamine)cobalt(III) cations and [Hg2ICI6](3-) anions. T
he configurations of the ethylenediamine rings are delta, gamma, and delta,
and the absolute configuration of the complex is Lambda. In the anion, two
inequivalent Hg atoms are bridged by the I atom and form three bonds each
with the nearest neighboring CI atoms. The Hg-CI bond lengths range between
2.428(8) and 2.654(8) Angstrom, and the Hg-I bond lengths are 2.734(2) and
2.766(2) Angstrom.
