French ostracodologists largely provide data on a main thematic field of in
vestigations during the last decades: Evolution. Both practical and theoret
ical points of view were analysed and treated from the Cambrian up to the P
resent, with the aim of various techniques and methodological approaches. I
n the microevolutionary context, studies concentrate especially on speciati
on, polymorphism in all aspects and role, dynamics of assemblages related t
o environmental changes. In the macroevolutionary scale, researches were or
iented on phylogeny, evolution of forms (ontogenetic patterns) and more rec
ently on relationships between global events and biosphere. So, numerous pa
pers were published on radiations and major crisis concerning ostracodes, a
s well in the marine as in the freshwater domains. The french contribution
which has been effective during the last century may be confirmed during th
e three last decades. In the next future, we hope that such researches were
still in progress and well integrated within the main options of modern re
search programs.
