The concepts presented in the present note are conceptually difficult. Suff
ice it to say that geometric morphometrics and compositional data-analysis
are scarcely known among professional statisticians. Three ideas, each of w
hich is relatively new, have proven to be very important in geology and pal
aeontology These are: (a) The question of the validity of multivariate stat
istical analyses in geochemistry. (b) The validity of multidimensional anal
yses of the shape of the crustacean carapace. (c) Geometric Morphometrics.
A synthesis of methods which has greatly enhanced the quantitative descript
ion of and geometry of shape of an organism in time and space.
