Abstract
Gentrification is a procyclical process by which certain inner-city neighbo rhoods are revitalized to meet the demands of professional households. It i s confined to cities with substantial central business district office grow th and with housing markets characterized by substantial suburb-to-inner ci ty filtering. The process remains limited in scale, and available data do n ot permit a judgment as to whether changes in mortgage lending have changed the nature of the process.
