Abstract
The calcineurin gene was cloned and disrupted in serotype D strains of Cryp tococcus neoformans. Serotype A and serotype D calcineurin mutants were inv iable at 37 degrees C and avirulent in mice, whereas only serotype A mutant s were cation stress sensitive. Thus, calcineurin plays conserved and diver gent roles in serotype A and serotype D strains.
