A 75-year-old man with right upper quadrant abdominal Case report pain was
diagnosed by gastroscopy to have an impacted gallstone in the duodenal bulb
. Using the polypectomy loop, the stone was extracted from the bulbus and m
obilized into the stomach. After failure to remove the stone from the stoma
ch as well as fragmentation by mechanical lithotripsy, electrohydraulic lit
hotripsy was used to break up the stone, parts of which passed spontaneousl
y through the bowel. Thus, it was unnecessary to proceed with surgical ente
rolithotomy to remove, from the duodenal bulb, the impacted gallstone respo
nsible for the gastric outlet obstruction.
