A class of special control systems that appeared in the last few years
at the junction of two theoretical disciplines-the theory of automati
c control and the theory of artificial intelligence-is outlined. The m
ain stages of evolution of models of automatic control and the methods
of knowledge processing that form the basis for developing control sy
stems with improved dynamic characteristics capable for stable behavio
r under the conditions of uncertainty of the used information are pres
ented. The problems of terminology connected with specific features of
the used definitions and notions in this relatively new domain are di
scussed.
